Multi-region Amsul Review: Mixed Demand and Varying Price Activity Globally

Southeast Asia

Standard amsul delivered prices were indicated at $185-195/t cfr. Freight for a 6,000-8,000t vessel from China to southeast Asia markets like Thailand and Philippines were indicated at $35-42/t, while an 8,000-12,000t vessel was stable at $25/t.

Some standard caprolactam-grade amsul inquiries emerged from Vietnam, with buyers mostly seeking around 6,000-8,000t cargoes for July shipment.

Northwest Europe

Standard amsul was assessed at €250-270/t fob northwest Europe and granular amsul was assessed at €300-340/t fob northwest Europe this week.

At least 1,000t of standard amsul traded between €255-265/t fob northwest Europe for July shipment this week. Sellers reported buy-side interest picking up in parts with some buyers in the market to test price levels, but sales remain limited.

Offers of Chinese compacted amsul spanned $330-350/t fca this week, inclusive of all duties. But demand remains muted.

Meanwhile, historically low water levels in parts of the Rhine river and other European waterways are affecting barge transportation. A market player estimated that freight costs may have risen by €5-20/t depending on the region.

South Africa

Standard amsul is on offer locally at around $295-300/t exwarehouse.

Brazil

Weekly compacted amsul prices were assessed at $185-200/t cfr. There was no daily assessment due to a public holiday in Brazil.

Workable levels to major southern ports were indicated at $185-190/t cfr. Sales to northern and northeastern ports, where most of the demand appears to be, were concluded in the $190-198/t cfr range with offers heard up to $210/t cfr for the same ports.

At least 120,000t of compacted amsul traded between $190-195/t cfr southern ports earlier this week and over the weeekend for July/August. At least another 50,000t was sold over the high $190s/t to the low $200s/t cfr to nothern arc ports for a similar shipment period.

Most bids were reported in the low $180s/t cfr with some heard down to $170/t cfr. But sellers reported bid interest picking up along with demand reported for at least 50,000t for July/August shipment.

US

Ammonium sulphate prices at New Orleans moved lower after domestic producers released summer fill programs.

Nola amsul prices softened as domestic producers cut offers during the summer offseason. Lower-priced imported product also pressured the market, coming in about $20-30/ st below initial domestic offers. US amsul producer Advansix initally opened with offers above last year's fill values before revising them lower.

Nola sales were reported at $270/st fob this week, roughly netting back to €230-235/t fob northwest Europe, or €30- 50/t below current posted offers in the region. Further weakness at Nola could limit European imports into the US during the third quarter.
